The Holy Cross Chapel is located on Misa Hill above Vršac. It is the oldest Catholic Church in Banat. It is the second oldest building still standing on its original site in Vršac ( the oldest one is the Vršac Tower ) .
The Church was built from 1720 to 1782.
In autumn 1739, the town’ s Catholic population decided to erect a votive Chapel to the glory of St. Rocco – the protector against the plague. That was the year in which Vršac, after suffering long – lasting obliteration by the Ottomans, was struck by a severe epidemic of plague.
There is an observation deck built in 2007 which offers impressive views of the town and the surrounding countryside.
