The river Lim

The River Lim appears below Mt Prokletije, bringing down the waters of the beautiful Plav Lake, situated at an altitude of999 m.

The river’ s biggest gorge can be found between Dobrakovo and Brodarevo.

The Lim flows over a distance of 174 m and passes through Andrijevica, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Prijepolje, Priboj and Rudo. It ends its course below Medvedja, at an altitude of 299 m, as a tributary of the River Drina.

The River Lim is interesting in that significant tourist potentials are present in a small area. Gorges and canyons, high rocks of grey limestone, waterfalls, springs and fountainheads, caves and lovely valleys, habitats of plant and animal species alternate along its course.

The Lim, with its vast waters, favorble temperature ( around 20°C in summer ), and wealth of different fish species, provides favorable conditions for recreation kayaking, log floating and rafting. Since the year 2000, when it became part of  the rafting offer, the Lim has attracted large numbers of tourists who love a river that poses a challenge.

Petrovac in Velika Župa is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Lim. Every year, at the end of July, a diving competition is held on this river, entitled Petrovac on the Lim. Competitors dive off stepp rocks rising 12 or 16 m above the water into a 7 m deep whirlpool. In addition to the Petrovac beach, there are also other, smaller beaches along the Lim banks.

The main road running through Prijepolje, the potentials of its fish fund, the religious, cultural and historical monuments along this river, the slalom and downhill ski trails, are the tourist potentials of the River Lim.
